  1. It was a simple choice for me really. I'd spent most of my teenage years traveling and working in various places and cities and then decided that I wanted to get an education and make an actual life for myself. Didn't much like England (my native country) for many reasons and so the U.S. was the perfect choice for me.

I moved when I was 21, enrolled in a double major and double minor, graduated from C.U. when I was 26 with a Bachelor's Degree in Business Management and Psychology and a minor in Social Science and Philosophy. Now I am currently in my 3rd year of law school at D.U.

Of course I have married since then and I am no longer considered an international student but for me, my decision was based on wanting to gain an education to make a better life for myself and my future family.

Did I and do I miss home? Yes, some parts but most of it is just trivial such as watching the rugby with a decent pint of beer on a Sunday afternoon. Would I ever go back to live? Absolutely not, although the free health care would be nice!

As the answerer before me stated, the ones who move because of what they *think* the U.S. is like to live in based on movies etc are the ones who do not succeed or gain much from their time here. Living life in the U.S. is so much more and it certainly isn't all roses and those that only come for a week or two on vacation and say "Oh I could live here" are the ones who get a big reality shock when they do finally move.

  2. I've hosted 13 of them -- known a lot more. Most have said the number one reason is learning/bettering English. Others liked what they saw on TV and in the movies. Those tended to be the kids disappointed with their exchange -- at least in the beginning.
