  1. Your husband will have to submit paperwork for command sponsorship if the two of you decide that you want to go.  Be aware though if he does that he will have to extend his tour to 2 or 3 years.  We were told 2.  I have heard that dependent on the base it really isn't that bad.  I think they are trying to make it more family friendly so that over time they can start increasing accompanied tours.  Best bet if you want to go start on the paperwork right away.  You will need medical clearance and will most likely need immunizations and such.  Good luck!

  2. with the army...1 year is unaccompanied (soldier by himself)

or you can do 2 years and take your family. However, everyone tells me you dont wanna take your family to Korea

"dependent authorized" means dependent allowed. A Spouse or child  is a dependent

  3. If his orders say dependent authorized.

Dependents authorized means he can take family with him.  You will be allowed on post housing etc.

  4. its going to depend on rank and branch....you can go to korea on your own dime and live..i have a friend that did that....her husband was in the army..but when my husband who is air force went the kids and i stayed here..but now i know they are allowed to have dependents go with them but its the higher ranking air force people...

  5. Only if it is an accompanied tour, which means it would be a 2 or 3 year tour and dependents would be listed on his orders.

If it is a 12 month short tour, it would be "dependent restricted", meaning the military does not authorize dependents to PCS with the soldier.

You have the choice to move unaccompanied if this is the case, however, the military will not pay for your move, you will not be authorized to live on base, and your soldier may be required to stay in the barracks instead of living with you. Spouses do chose this option rather than spending the year apart, however, the Army discourages it and personally, I think it is a bad idea.

The only way to know if you are authorized to move to Korea with your husband is to look at his orders.

  6. Korea is a 1 year hardship tour. Usually, family does not accompany the soldier. However, the soldier can get a command sponsorship. THis means that his family can go with him, but it usually extends the tour to 2 years.

  7. sorry no
