  1. Crocodiles hunt in water and along the shore line. You are not safe on land if you are near the water.  Crocs run extremely fast in a short burst of energy, fast enough to chase an unwary animal (like a human) down.  They aren't particularly likely to try though.  They prefer to take prey by surprise so if they actually have to expend the energy to give chase to something, it's just not worth the effort.  Most food is ambushed along the shore line so just stay away from the water's edge and stay aware of your surroundings.

Also, that whole running zig-zag story is utter nonsense that will probably get you killed.  Crocs make very fast and powerful side to side motions with their heads to catch food.  Humans have to slow down in order to turn so while you are slowing down to make your zig zag, the croc is catching you.

  2. No, not at all.  They can still grab you and drag you to where they want you, usually into the water to drown you.  Crocodiles are completely unpredictable and conscience of only two things, eating and breeding.  They are not very high on the intelligence level and do not respond to loving care like a dog.  They also have the most powerful jaws of any animal living today.  The muscles to "open" the mouth are weak and can be held closed with a little tape, but no living thing can withstand the thousands of pounds of pressure executed by those jaws.

Steve Erwin was an idiot in doing what he did, even though he was a very nice guy personally and it's sad that he was killed.  But, it was surprising to all of us in the animal business that he didn't die much sooner than he did.  He was tempting death way, way too often in dealing with the huge, aggressive Crocodiles and Alligators he teased and handled.  It was only a matter of time.

  3. Crocs, alligators, and Komodo dragons can all run 35 MPH on land for short distances (up to 100yds).

  4. Were you planning to swim with some in the Mara River, or in a river in Australia, with salties?

They can run 15 miles an hour for a short distance.  You tell me. Are you still safe?  In Africa, crocs kill more people than any other critter.  Next are hippos.  Still wish to go for a swim???

  5. They are not in their element out of water. They can hurt you if they catch you, but they are most dangerous in water. They are ambush hunters, they catch their pray by surprise at the waters edge.

  6. Kind of. When your out of the water and so is the crocodile, all you have to do is zig zag. The crocodile would have a hard time trying to get you.

  7. You aren't completely safe, but I've heard that running in a zig-zag pattern slows them down. They usually won't chase you that long though.

  8. no. It will chase you until you are quite far from its source of water. People say things like: stand on its jaws. Can't say i'd recomend that though. Run away, go inside, climb something.

  9. The crocodile, and alligator, too, are formidable in the water. However, on land, they are for the most part, slow, and sluggish. They are capable of bursts of speed, but only for a short duration, just seconds really. With these predators around, you're never really safe...unless you're in one part of the world, and they're in another.

  10. No you aren't because they can run really fast, they say that if you zig zag side to side it confuses them, but I'm not willing to try.

Hope this helps and have a good weekend ;-)

  11. No, you need to get as far from the water as fast as you can.  Running in a zig zag pattern helps a little bit.

When a croc opens his mouth, he can no longer see you because of the placement of his eyes.  If you're about to be bitten - Move quickly! That is why they 'snap' their jaws at their prey; once they lose sight of their prey, they rely on sound.

Check out these gruesome pics of crocs and their victims.  Sad.  Many victims are children.

  12. no... they jump

  13. Not really, a crocodile can move much faster than a person for a short distance, even when on land.  They can certainly still kill someone on land, not much at climbing though, hunt a tree.

  14. no. Crocodiles can still live in the land. Go to higher places like trees or run fast because they are not fast runners.

  15. no climb a tree it b*ggers em up.
