  1. You cannot drive in Australia on a foreign license if you are disqualified. Here are the Queensland rules, but they will be exactly the same for all states:

    When am I not allowed to drive in Queensland on my foreign driver licence?

    You must not drive in Queensland on your interstate or foreign driver licence if:

    - you have been disqualified from holding or obtaining a driver licence by an order of an Australian court

    - your authority to drive on the licence has been suspended or withdrawn.

    If you already have an Australian licence which is still current, you also shouldn't drive, but it's difficult to know how Australian authorities would know about an overseas disqualification. Of course, if you were involved in a serious road incident, then they would find out and you would be in very serious trouble.

  2. You most likely would have to apply for an Australian drivers license, and most drivers license applications have a question to the following effect: "Have your driving privileges been suspended or revoked in any other jurisdiction?"

    Answer 'no' to that and it is perjury and you have a whole new set of problems.

    Get a roo and hop to work.

  3. You need to apply for an Australian licence. Every state has their own motor registry, therefore, the licences, laws and such are different.

    Even one moving interstate would need to reapply.

    Whatever penalty you got in the UK may still be here in Australia. Therefore, you will have to check for eligibility. They may ask if you have been arrested or charged for drink driving in your home country. If yes, they may set certain conditions.

  4. No, not legally. They do check on these things too.

    Driving Licences

    Tourists may drive in Australia on a valid overseas drivers licence for the same class of vehicle. (3 months maximum)

    Licences must be carried when driving, in addition to a valid passport.

    An International Drivers Permit is not sufficient by itself and must be accompanied by a valid drivers permit.

  5. This is what it says in Western Australia:

    Completing your application

    When you have met all of the above requirements, you will then be required to:

        * complete an application form that includes questions regarding;

              - any medical conditions you may have that could affect your driving; and

              - any traffic or criminal convictions that you have

        * pass an eyesight test

        * Have your photo taken for your new licence

    If you don't tell, I don't know how they would know (but Big Brother is getting bigger).

  6. If you are a disqualified drink driver in the UK, then we don't want you driving here thanks.   My kids are on the road and I don't want them dead.

  7. I drove in the USA on a suspended Australian licence, and in Qld on a NSW licence, they have to catch you (than your in ****, but plend 'ignorance' anyway).
