  1. Accurate contact is more important than any arm or ab power.

You could have major arm and ab muscles but if you don't hit the ball the right way, your power will have very little advantage in a great over hand serve.

  2. I think it is back and shoulder strength actually.  It takes several muscles in the body to serve a ball if you do a slow motion serve you will see which ones you use the most.

  3. I would say arm and shoulder.  But one of the main things is the position of the ball when it hits your hand.  If you dont hit it with the right part of you hand that ball is not going anywhere.

  4. I'd say it's more of arm and balance.  I know that i don't have a six pack, but i've played soft ball a lot, and i can do an overhand serve pretty well.

  5. you need arm power and a good toss, ab power helps for passing and hitting. You know that you are passing godd if your butt and abs hurt by the next day

  6. it really depends on what kin of serve you do and how you set up..

to tell you the truth, the volleyball serve is alot like a tennis serve in the way you strike the ball.

i play tennis and volleyball and most of the kids on my volleyball team think my serve is really good.

the muscles used for serves in tennis and volleyball should be your back, shoulders, triceps ( back of your arm), and legs if you use a jump serve.

  7. its like a combination of both...but what many believe is thats it justs arms...but it requires core body strength and accuracy...when you serve you can turn your body or use it as extra power and that is where your abs and other chest muscles come in to play......just make sure you get the basic muscles... biceps triceps, shoulder, and to make an even more powerful attack in your serve work your abs and back

  8. I would have to say....LEG bend your legs and your sure to make it over.

Leg and arm do the trick :) and shoulder

When you just start your arm and shoulder will HURT a lot, so be ready. ;)

  9. Arm and Leg Power!!! You put all your weight on your back foot and then at the same time as your arm you push your leg forward and hit the ball?!?!?!?! So yea it really isnt ab power!

  10. Well....you need both, but in order to have the best serve possible....you have to be able to toss correctly. About 2 feet above you and a little forward so that you can step into it if you have to work harder to get it over.

  11. you mostly need arm power but as the others have said you need multiple muscle power. like abs arms and back

  12. More Arm than Ab.
