or if you go back to a certain generation level, say 5th Great Grand parents (if you're about 20 yrs old), are they all from the same place as your 3rd Great Grandparents who decsended from them. Or how far back do you have to go until your ancestros are all from the same place? Or how recent is it that they are from differnent places (countys).

  1. First of all Bavaria is a State of Germany; before there WAS Bavaria as an independent Kingdom. But, are you speaking theoretically or of a particular individual?

If you mean only a few generations ago, some people might have all their ancestors from ONE place; but going back in time, no one would have all their ancestors from one place (country).

  2. Matt, every single one of your ancestors are individual persons. They are going to be born/died, where they were born and died, and the entire process of genealogy is finding specific and factual information, using records.

If (for example) you live in a certain country, and your research shows all your ancestry to be from that same place.. it might be true for you.  It will not be true for someone else.

You cannot make assumptions in genealogy. It is all based on how to find facts.

from other questions, it looks that you are interested in knowing more and understanding your ancestry and heritage. Here is a tutorial on how to find the solid information on this topic.  We would enjoy helping you learn the accurate way to determine who your ancestors were.

  3. Your question assumes people in Europe didn't have horses, boats, canals, railroads, ordinary roads or feet. For God's sake, use your head! Every wave of invaders followed a pattern; resistance, then assimilation, and children whose fathers and mothers were from different places. Merchants and missionaries would sometimes bring wives home; so would soldiers, sailors and other travelers.

If you go back 40,000 years we're all from Africa; probably Kenya, but the borders were not fixed then. Any time after that you can't make assumptions.

  4. If you're from europe it doesn't mean your previous family was from the same place. Many people from russia come over to europe... many scandinavians cross borders with eachother. And if you go back very far in time people were traveling all over europe.

I heard there is a kit you can buy from national geographic where they send you a mouth swab and some other stuff and you send it back and they can tell you exactly what your heritage is like exact percentages.

  5. I guess so..

    There's a lot to "dig" ;)

  6. I guess you'd have to go back to Adam & Eve to get all your ancestors in one place.  =]  People have been constantly on the move throughout history.

Check out the National Geographic Genographic Project website, and look at the atlas of the human journey, and the atlas of human history.  It's really fascinating!

  7. I don't think sooo........

    The person above me:

'If you go back 40,000 years we're all from Africa; probably Kenya, but the borders were not fixed then. Any time after that you can't make assumptions'

Good to hear someone finally  admitting that we're ALL from Africa!
