You have just graduated school with outstanding grades, top of the year and all. You decide to choose a career based on your strong faith (any faith, but i assume most will think i mean Christianity so lets go with that). Also, let us say your parents are rich and will be happy with what ever path you choose. So, that said, would you choose to join the clergy and become a priest. To dedicate your life to your god and your community. Would you choose a career in philosophy and spend your life interpreting the world around you into ideas. Would you devote your life to the arts, (visual, literal or otherwise) and draw inspiration from your faith. Or would you choose a career in science and study the workings of gods creations. Or would you choose something completely different or a combination.

this is completely a 'what if' scenario, i would appreciate both the religions and atheists opinions and choices on this. I myself am an atheist and this is a scenario that is interesting to me so please, answer honestly, thank you

  1. Science and Philosophy.

But really, Science and Philosophy do not need faith, they need knowledge and an open mind.

  2. Well, you have a problem Esc because as an atheist you have no 'god' to guide you through your life therefore you will be left at the mercy of your own decisions and the consequences of any wrong choices that you make.

We who are Christians, on the other hand, have a loving, caring God who wants only what is best for us.  He knows the end before the beginning and can see any wrong turns we might try to make and will guide and steer us through all this.

Personally if I were 47 years younger and just coming out of university I would make mistakes big time because I didn't become a Christian until a year later that that BUT, fortunately for me ,(and I am sure that it was because of God knowing what I needed before I knew myself) I did not enter higher education until the age of 21 when I was established in my Christian faith.

God guided me in the most miraculous of ways into a career I had never (in my wildest dreams) anticipated and He has never left my side since then - even though there have been periods when I have slightly shifted away from Him.

People with a really serious faith will not just use their qualifications when thinking of a career, they will also take into account their actual interests, personal abilities and motivations, none of which appear in writing on a certificate, diploma or degree.

Too many people today study for subjects that they know they can pass with excellence, rather than the things in which they are really interested and which could make a difference to themselves and the world around them. People with a strong faith put many things, other than paper qualification, higher on their list of importance than do people without a faith.  There are too many square pegs in round holes, dissatisfied with their work and life. This is because they have no-one to guide them but themselves.

  3. I'd go for science. Or art. One of the two. I love art, but science is the answer to everything, and I want to know everything.

    -Atheist.
