  6. I am just beginning to recover from the death of my mother. Trust me, there is nothing worse than an empty seat and knowing it is for her. I am honored when people remember my mother, but it would make for an awkward evening to be at a friends house for dinner and be sitting next to an empty chair. It is considerate of you to ask, but remember, it is better to speak to the spouse about their deceased loved one than to ignore the issue and leave an empty chair.
