Is it wrong to call yourself a "Mutt" ?

I am multiracial and I take offense to it, but I was listening to the radio and another multiracial female said it about herself.I remember getting into a fight with a kid back in middle school when he called me that. What do you think about the word? Is it acceptable or not? Why or why not?

  1. im multiracial too, and i always get jokingly called a 'mutt' and 'hybrid'. but the truth of the matter is, we are mutts haha. mutts are dogs that are mixed, and we as humans are mixed. it only has negative connotations to it because usually when people say mutt theyre referring to a dog, but its all in good humour. well most of the time, if you can sense that its being used in a derogatory way then i would take offense, but if the person is just joking around i wouldnt take it too seriously.

theyre just jealous of our multiracialness. mixing strengthens the gene pool :)

  2. yeah, it's ok to say that I think. I mean, it's just a term. We use it for non pure bred dogs. And especially now, there are rarely any "pure bred" people. And no, I am not multi racial, but multi cultured.

  3. i think its an awful word but some multiracial refer to themselves in this way so its up to you. 'mutt' always reminds me of a dog though

  4. Personally, like many words. I would say it's only acceptable when

    a) you know the person is o.k with it

    or..

    b) your one yourself

That may just be my opinion, I think it can be acceptable, i consider myself an impure bred person aka mutt lol. But nobody ever calls me it because people respect me.

It's basically like calling someone the N-Word. Your either very close with them and they don't mind, or they take offence to it regardless of anything..

Everyone is different and they should ask you or assume it's not o.k.

  5. I'm not multiracial, I'm 100% Armenian but I would never call a person a mutt, I would only do it if they thought it was okay of me to do it, to me it sounds more of what you would call a dog, not a person
