If you are named say after you grandpa, and you have the exact same name, First, Middle and Last, r u the 2nd?

This means that your dad ( whose dad is your grandpa) has a different name, but you still have the same name as your grandpa. Would it give the the title of the 2nd?

  1. I would say if your grandfather is still living, then using the II is appropriate.

    Actually, it is considered correct for a person to drop the Jr. once their father has died.  A lot of men don't.  I haven't seen any rule regarding II, III, IV etc.


  2. To use the II is entirely appropriate.  If it were a father and son, the "second" one by the same name is usually Jr., but the II suffix is appropriate for anyone carrying the  exact same name in a family whether it skips a generation or not.
