get the wrinkles out of your clothes? I have a washer dryer combination but do not use the dryer. I manually hang my clothes on a clothesline (yes the old fashioned way). But they get wrinkled. If I iron them, I am using energy (am I using as much as if I dried the clothes?) so how do I get the wrinkles of of my clothes? OK all you greenies out there time to give me some suggestions. And permanent press clothes still need pressing.

  1. be smart enough to ignore all the bullshit ! do your thing and be happy.......

  2. I use a solar clothes dryer (clothes line right now) on nice days, and hang the clothes on an inside rack on bad days. If ironing is a must, then iron only those that are the most important.  When I was in the service, I used clothes stretchers. They don't stretch the clothes, but the are metal frames that the clothes slide onto to keep them from wrinkling. I buy only 100% cotton. You will find no Poly on my back!

    Just a few ideas for you.

  3. I am glad you are trying to save energy and you are certainly right to avoid using your dryer.

    I too find that some clothes are wrinkled after drying on the clothesline (or indoor clothes airer when it is raining).  But most of them are OK either because they are not outer clothes or because most of the creases drop out after a few minutes wear.

    What I do is identify which clothes really do need ironing and iron only them.  Be careful though to separate the other clothes first because it is tempting, once you have set up the iron, to just keep on going through the whole pile.  Not only a waste of electricity but of time too.

    Best wishes for a low energy and only slightly wrinkled future.

  4. Downy Wrinkle Releaser.

  5. Ironing is no big deal energy wise. if you're going to worry about that you might as well throw out your blow dryer. good on you for trying to do your part, but hey, go ahead and iron your clothes.

  6. they had a spry called wrinkle relice and it works and is not harm full

  7. An electric clothes dryer is a huge energy consumer (typically 5400 watts. Where I live, that translates into over $1.00 per hour. Whereas a typical iron consumption is negligible.

  8. Using a steam iron is not much energy to use at all, so its not a big deal if you iron your clothes. Drying them electrically is much more energy consuming, so It would be better for the environment if you were to Hang them out, and then Iron them.

    Thanks. =]

  9. You could put them all in the dryer after they are dry for 5 or 10 minutes.  This will take the wrinkles out and probably be about the same as leaving the iron on for the time it takes to iron all of them.  If it is a newer dryer it should be pretty efficient.

  10. Well I suppose that you could just take the plunge and become a nudist :)

    Barring that you could try hanging your clothes up with you when you take a shower. Since you are showering anyway the steam is just being wasted. You can be your own personal steam and press!
