If you are on vacation and someone asks you where you are from, and you tell them. And they say something like "that's a beautiful city" or some other compliment, are you supposed to say thank you? That doesn't seem right, but any advice would be nice. I just usually agree with them.

Thanks.

  1. I lie and tell them I'm from Toronto or Ottawa. The way that I carry on when I'm on vacation is such that I don't want anyone to know where I really live. If I'm being really obnoxious I tell them I'm an American from New York.

  2. If they say something like, "that's a beautiful city", I say, "I think so too!".  Then I ask about where they are from and try to say something nice, like "I've heard that is a nice place" (if I've never been there), or "I was there and it was nice too".  Kinda lame, but just conversation!
