I’m a supporter of the Iraq war, and know you probably don’t. I’m not asking for your views on the Iraq war, just this question on the effect on the some people’s lives, because of the sides they tuck. To better explain, i strongly believe that some people have gotten popular on the back of opposing the Iraq war. So in this sense, for all their opposition, they should actually be glad it tuck place. Here in Britain there is a political party known as the liberal democrats, over the past couple years, they’ve shot up in popularity and become known as the third biggest party, but frankly i believe the only reason there in that position is because they were opposed to the Iraq war, every election they practically only winched on about Iraq and it seemed to get the votes. I mean i believe if Tony Blair didn’t do the Iraq war, far from being one of the most unpopular Prime ministers, he would have without doubt, been one of the most popular Prime ministers.

  1. the only ones I know that support this war are the ones making money on it, have you

  2. Doing the right thing is not always doing the popular thing.

  3. I dunno, I went there twice between 2003 and 2005. i also went to Afghanistan in 2001 and 2004. During the '90s I went to Cambodia, Western Sahara, Somalia,Bosnia and East Timor.

I've never actively supported any war and I've had a fair bit of experience in seeing what they do. I fully support the troops there and always will though.

Before you go sprouting off about supporting a war why don't you get yourself onto the two way rifle range? See for yourself the effects of high velocity rounds on human flesh, how evil and insidious IEDs are and the real non discriminatory effects of land mines.

  4. You don't seem to have thought your argumant through clearly. The Liberal democrats have always been a big party. Just because you hadn't noticed them before, doesn't mean that the weren't there

Secondly people who opposed the invasion in Iraq and to a lesser extent Afganistan, did not have crystal balls. They opposed it because they saw an ilegal invasion of a country happening and wanted to show their displeasure

The 2 million people who took to the streets of London in 2003 to oppose then war were not trying to make their life better by being on the "winning" side in the "is war right or wrong?" debate; they wanted to oppose the senseless loss of human life.

I agree with you on one point though, that by going to war, Blair ruined his political career. But al least he's still alive and well, eh?

  5. well the Iraq War is such a complicated matter... and i dont believe popularity should be affected by someone's opinion ON THE WAR. i think you should look back to Vietnam and see the similarities. all the opposition did end up getting us out and saving many american lives, but how many vietnamese died because we left? i think this war is unpopular because we can't find a reason why. i dont believe it should be this effective on our lives, yet at the same time...

americans are amazingly uninvolved in the war compared with others. there has been no counter-culture developed, or victory gardens grown, or a nation divided down the middle. i dont think the war should interfere with people's personal lives that much, but i do believe everyone SHOULD have an opinion on the war. and they are entitled to think whatever they so choose.

  6. I haven't benefited from it nor have the American people.  Halliburton and the Cheney's and Bush families have though does this say anything?

  7. I oppose any war, even the one in Afghanistan which I have to admit is justified---the simple reason being that war causes great insjury and suffering to all---the soldiers, their families, the soldiers of our enemies and their families---no matter what, war causes pain and suffering....in my opinion should human beings be reasonable enough to work things out with diplomacy.  Bush knew that 9/11 was coming and did nothing to prevent it....which means to me that he WANTED to go to war, and that is no justification for me.  There is never any justification good enough to put an entire country into misery---we have no right to tell another country what they can and cannot do in their own country--we only have the right to do what we feel is right in our country.....

  8. Here in the US many people have opposed the war even though this is not a particularly popular position. The war still has many supporters here--or else McCain wouldn't be a viable candidate. Every Saturday in this city demonstrators gather at an intersection to protest the war. While they get some support they're also subjected to abuse. It takes courage to do what they're doing, and they don't get any tangible reward I'm aware of.
