says to you that you should have warned him that you were coming by. I'm on the street with my dog on a leash. I saw him out with the dogs. My dog has met his dogs before. I know they are good. But do I really have to announce my arrival? I am a quiet person. I'm friendly. Exactly, what do I say? Here I am with my dog. Was this guy a loon? He lives in a kind of trashy house so he's not a high class person at all. I'm not surprised he said this to me. I hate to seem judgmental because I'm really not but when it's in my face on more than one occasion. I told my husband and he was upset. He would have fired back at him. That's not my style. I was just quiet. I didn't respond. I shouldn't have time to say anything. Again, the dogs were fine. My dog doesn't really like other dogs so there was some running around, chasing. But no danger really. I was in the middle trying to regain my dog who slipped out of his collar because he was afraid. He thinks he is a person.

  1. I would not announce my arrival to walk on a public street.  Are his dogs in his yard or outside loose?  If they are loose, I would call animal control.

Either way, I would not make an announcement of my arrival.  Tell him that if you decide to come visit him personally,, you will let him know in advance.  Then just say, seeing that I am walking on a city or town street, I have called the town hall and tried to announce my impending walk but they told me not to call them again.

  2. first of all this owner does not have the right to talk to you like that, when you have done nothing wrong. When this happened were you at the park or on the street? If you were in a place where dogs are to be on leashes, this person should be reported to your city. My dog used to do the same, they would run towards people and their dogs when they would be walking outside our house. This lady reported my dog to the city and then they came and warned us that if our dog was to run off our property with out his collar or leash, they would give us a fine. Go up to this guy and say for him to keep his dogs under control and that you are reporting him to the city. Call you city and tell them this guys address and what he is doing. (include all the details)

  3. tell neighbours about it and keep away from him when walking your dog he sounds like a fool

  4. as long as your were walking on the street and have a leash( not even nessary) then your good. Just to let you know...if a matter like this were brought up in court, then the judge would say its perfectly fine as long as its a public street not owned by that man, and that if that man has a problem, then he should get a fence and keep his animals fenced in...

  5. That's crazy. What are you supposed to do? Walk around with a trumpet, and blow it before you come by? Get his number and call him on your cell, "I'm coming by in 5- is that okay with you?"

    YES! He's a loony-toon loon.

All you can do is nod politely, and under your breath say "psycho!"

  6. I wouldn't announce my arrival (that's silly, are you to go yodeling down the street?), but I would cross to the other side of the street and not walk infront of his house... so yes I'd say he was a loon.  I'm glad the encounter ended well, I've kicked a few dogs that were growling and hackling at mine in similar situations.

  7. i wouldn't announce my arrival do u live right next to him? u shouldn't have to, he should control his dogs bettr.

  8. Yes this guy is not only wrong he is breaking the law by letting his loose dogs run at another dog or human.Your dog could have ran in to traffic when he slipped his collar and got hit.You do not have to annouce your comeing down the street. If this happens again say this "Well lets just call the SPCA and have them come figure this out!" then keep going. That should be enough to let him know its not all right and you will do some thing about it.When you get home call the Humane society or who ever is in charge and tell them these loose dogs are a threat to you and your dog. They should come talk to him and issue a warning for him to stop this bad behaviour. Now lets talk about your dog slipping his collar.Since you are not useing a choke ,you should go to a pet store and get a martenigale colloar it will only tighten when the dog trys to get out of it and is loose the rest of the time.Go into the store tell them your problem they should be able to help stop this.Tilks Mom

  9. You do not have to warn this man that you are coming by. You are on the sidewalk.

You do not owe that man a thing. If nothing else he needs to warn you that he has loose dogs...stupid idiot.

Tell him he does not own the sidewalk and if he confronts you one more time you will call animal control on him for having loose dogs or better yet the cops for his belligerent actions.

I guarantee if you threaten him with the law he will back down.

Buy a horn and every-time his dogs come out and run at you, blast it.

It will frighten them away and just keep walking.

Do not even give the guy time to say anything to you.

He will eventual put his dogs up when he sees you coming because he doesn't want the embarrassment.

  10. The guy is being an idiot. The sidewalk is public domain. Anyone has a right to walk there even if it's in front of his house.  There is no law saying you have to "announce your arrival".  The guy should have had his two dogs under control.  Every responsible owner should have their dogs under complete control 100% of the time.

ADD: If this happened to me I'd probably give the guy a mean look and walk away with my well-behaved leashed dog, leaving him to manage his out of control dogs.  It's nothing so serious to be confrontational about.  However, if his dogs were aggressive and went after mine I have no problem defending my dog. It has happened before.  If the owner gets mad at me for kicking off their dog then say something about leash laws.  99% of the time they shut up right away, grab their dog, and leave.

  11. you should not have to announce to the whole neighborhood that you are going to walk your dog. Aslong as it is leashed and in your control, then you are in the right. The owner should never have his dogs out of control to run up to anyone on the street. They need to be leashed or in a fenced in area at all times when outside. That is just bad ownership and I hate to think that because of him one or both of those dogs will end up in a fight or getting hit by a car.

I tend to pop off at the mouth more than I should, and my husband gets onto me for it. But I would have given him a piece of my mind once he said that.
