If you are uncomfortable in a bathing suit, can the gym teacher make you swim?

I am not comfortable wearing a bathing suit in gym class, and I can't swim anyway. Can the gym teacher make me swim? I couldn't find any rules about it online. No answers saying, suck it up or anything because I did swim last year in gym so I did suck it up. I am just wondering.

The goal of taking swimming in gym class in school is to help you, the student, gain basic skills.  The teacher is not trying to make you a proficient swimmer, but is looking at effort.  Let's face it, not everyone is going to excel in athletics.  I for one don't like basketball yet many people think I should be good at it because I'm tall.  To answer your question, directly, no the teacher cannot make you swim.  However, you will see the results of your decision when reports cards are issued.

If swimming is part of your gym class then you are going to have to swim and wear a bathing suit. We all hated gym with those stupid gym suits, but we had to do it. Go to the office and ask them what the stipulation is on swimming.

Try to tell your counselor what;s up or realize that everyone has flaws and to except who you are and go out there and swim.

At our school, we can pick gym or dance, does your school any other classes you can take in place of gym?
