just call the police. they don't have to know it was u. at least u got her some help without getting personally involved. it's the right thing to do. just think if it were a member of your family,would't u want someone to help them.

Do NOT go over there but DO call the POLICE right NOW. And you don't have to give them your name when you report it. Just say that you would rather not for your own safety because the guy is violent.

I'd call the police and if they come to your door do not invite them in (go out to talk with them), if your worried, put all your alcohol away and stop drinking right now until they're gone (they can't search you unless they find you suspicious), if your worried they're going to smell alcohol on  your breath chew some gum or brush your teeth quickly, you do not want something really bad to happen to your neighbor that you could have prevented....

Ignore the response about chewing gum and brushing your teeth - that isn't going to hide the fact you're drinking.  Alcohol can be smelled in other places besides your breath.

Call the police and tell them what you've heard.  You're not obligated to give your name or talk to them in person.  They will most likely just head over, knock on their door, and say they've had complaints or such.  I imagine they will ask her if everything is okay or not.  If she says yeah, there isn't much they can do.
