  1. You will absolutely need a passport. But you no doubt already have one. Usually the cruise line with give you some kind of document/card to identify that you are legally aboard the ship. Carnival calls it a "sail & sign" card. This not only allows you to purchase things on the ship, but also serves to allow you back on the ship.

    I think that your passport, coupled with the ships identification, should suffice to prove that you are on a cruise and only visiting momentarily. But it wouldn't hurt to ask your travel agent, or check some US government websites. Just to put your mind at ease.
