If you ask for forgiveness without saying exactly what you have done...?

It's up to the person you're asking. But forgiveness is all about humbling yourself and admitting you made a mistake. If you can't admit to the mistake, why should someone believe you are trustworthy? If you ask a person who trusts you and cares about you no matter what, they might forgive you anyway without knowing the whole story. But it would be unfair of you to ask them to do that. It will put doubt in the relationship. If you're truly sorry and aren't just trying to cover up your mistake so you can move on, then admit the whole thing before asking for forgiveness.

It means you didn't really ask for forgiveness FOR anything, so yeah, you're not really forgiven for what you did.

If you're asking God, it's a private thing, and He wants you to be totally honest, even though He knows EXACTLY what you did.

No problem.  You can do that, and of course you are forgiven.  To test?  If you don't do what you had done wrong any more, that means you are forgiven.

It's meaningless. Maybe worse, the person you ask forgiveness of will now be even more curious about what you've done than if you just admitted it and fell on your sword.

The only person that needs to forgive you is yourself, so If you're not totally honest with yourself how can you forgive yourself? And more importantly, how can you change for the better???
