I don't need a shrink to tell me what's wrong. I just want to take a pill that will get rid of this constant stomach knot that I have......

  2. No. My doctor didn't suggest a therapist until about the 20th visit and 10 different medications that didn't work for me. Even then they didnt send me to a shrink they just suggested it and said it was an option. But therapists don't tell you what's wrong they talk to you and try to get you to realize the initial cause of the anxiety which helps you get over it easier. Good luck

  3. No my doctor put me onto some anti-depressents and said if i'm not better in 2 months he will put me on the list to see a councillor.

  4. Not always no, but Cognitive Behavioural Therapy has a 70% success rate and it is far better management/treatment for anxiety then giving you medication (many of which are addictive) At the end of the day, it is your choice

  5. No, it's actually very unlikey that you will be sent to a psychiatrist. You will just ber given medication.

  6. I don't think they "need" to send you to a shrink, they may just think that it will help you figure out why you are having anxiety and that knowing why may help you to get rid of it instead of taking pills.  Over the last few months I have been having anxiety attacks when I go out to restaurants and theaters; I get the feeling that I am going to be sick, this cold sweat kinda thing, and feeling out of it.  I was really worried about it until someone on here put it into perspective for me.  What she said (wish I could remember her name right now) was this: Even though you feel sick you are not going to throw up, even though you feel out of it you are not going to pass out.  The best thing to do when this happens is breathe! Breath in with your nose and out with your mouth and soon those feelings should go away.  I would try this before going on pills that may harm your body in the long run.  Good luck.

you can work your knots out..  they are there for a psychological reason and you can use psychology to let them go

pills should only ever be a temporary fix and only as part of a larger solution e.g. counselling

  8. No, not always, it depends on why youre getting anxious!!

  9. The purpose of a shrink isn't to tell you what's wrong - it's to help you learn to cope.

Sure, you could go to a GP and take a highly addictive drug for the rest of your life. But why? Why would you do that when it's very possible to recover from anxiety with therapy?

  10. shrinks don't tell you what's wrong, they help you to deal with the problem you have and suggest ways of getting around them.

Did you know that saying.....'I don't need a shrink to tell me what's wrong'....is a sign of narcissism?.

  11. The doctor might want to refer to you a shrink, but it is not necesssary and based on what you have said, this is unlikely. Your doctor is perfectly qualified to treat anxiety if that is all it is.

Be careful with the pills though. They can help, but they do also have side effects. Find out about other things you can do to cope with anxiety. I have been doing meditation (mindfulness) for years and it has really helped with my anxiety/depression.

    All the best.

  12. It isn't neccessary but it helps to get therapy with medication

  13. No you do not need the shrink.Your Dr can prescribe what you need.
