If you become ill while employed and must quit due to the nature of the illness, is your HMO still valid?

  1. If you quit your job, your former employer is NOT going to pay to continue your group health insurance.  Doesn't matter if its HMO, PPO or whatever.


  2. Depending on your type of illness you may qualify for disability.

    Otherwise you will have to go on COBRA to continue your health insurance coverage.

  3. If you have to quit, you are then responsible for your own premiums- so if your company paid part of it- they no longer have to-  that's where Cobra comes in.  So no- if you quit your job for ANY reason your employer is no longer responsible for you in any way.
