  1. Yes. All iPods work the same. Just use Limewire for free songs.

Yes.  The only restriction with putting songs onto an iPod is that you must import them into iTunes first, which will change the format of the song to be played on your iPod.  You can buy songs anywhere, or use songs you already have on your computer or CDs.  But you can only buy songs from iTunes from the site of a store in a country where your credit card is billed.  So if your billing address is in Japan, you can use Japanese iTunes, but you can't buy music from the American iTunes store.
