I decided to just pay for their damages ( just a scuff, apparently going to cost me $260...) as opposed to reporting it to our insurance companies, as that would surely raise my premiums, and i really don't need that happening. But now they've said I need to pay for their rental car as well in the meantime the cars at the shop.

Am i supposed to pay for their rental car in such a situation? or just cover the damages and everything else is of their own accord?

  1.  no, you are not obliged to get them a rental! if you are settleing out side of the insurance there are no rules or regulations, if it was only a minor bump then i cant see the car bieng in the guarage that long and they couls make other arangements. the insurance normaly only supply a rental if the car is goin to be off the road for a long time!     and they might not even have a rental aggrement on there policy!!! if there on a cheep one.
