In Cal., its madatory you have insurance on your car, even if it's a used car. They will check dmv records. No insurance, they will take your car away.

You can but you shouldn't.  Driving without insurance is illegal in all but 2 states, Wisconsin and New Hampshire.  They do not require auto insurance.
