I was married for 16 years and divorced 4 years ago. I am in a relationship now but don't think I could ever get married again and give my whole self to someone. Is that fair to him?

  1. Yes, I think that's fair.

Just be honest with the other person by telling him explicitly what level of commitment you are willing to invest.

He can then decide to accept or reject your proposal.

That way, you both can be honest and forthright with each other from the beginning.

  2. "Give my whole self?" Means different things to different people. You can give your whole self without being married. So if this is what you talking about, you are probably giving your whole self already. You have no reason to feel guilty unless he wants to get married. Then if this is the case, tell him you are willing to give your whole self to him but you are not willing to be married due to your 16 year long marriage. Many mature people understands this and is willing to work through relationship with the one they love.
