and other luxuries than why should I the taxpayer pay for your health care or supplement your grocery bill with food stamps?

It's not for the people who can afford all of that though.  Obviously, if you can pay for every cable channel you could go out and buy health care and just not have cable.  

It's for the people who can't afford to. Maybe they lost their job, or the person who was the top earner in the family died and now they have to get out of that situation.  It's for the small business owner that is just starting out and struggling to keep his/her head above water.  It's for the person working three minimum wage jobs to earn just enough, but none of their jobs offer them health benefits. That's who we should be helping and I don't know why people object to it.

You might be the smartest person ever!!!!!! SO many people live a good life and we are paying for it! I saw a lady the other day buy steaks and crab legs with her food stamp card and then walk out in the parking lot and get into her BMW! She probably has a job doing something where she does claim her "tips" or something and drives a nicer car then me but I have to buy her groceries! To make matters worse she had her kid with her and of course she is dressed well and carrying a coach bag but her kid has holes in his shoes!

Just for the chick below, I MYSELF personally did have this experience at the grocery store and more than likely you are one of the people that the person that asked the question and I are speaking about....

Lose your job and you still have all of the above plus a home and kids.

Who still eat and get sick. Your assumption that beer and smokes are in use indicated a desire to see people as careless and ignorant, and therefore deserve scorn for their fate.

Have the plant go down  in your town and you can't sell that home either,

When we allow our citizens to get ill, or avoid treatment until its too late due to fear of hospital bills, we handicap ourselves.

Its nonsense that we all shouldn't benefit when we all, even the poor pay taxes, sales tax on clothes and kids shoes are paid without regard for income level.

605,000 lost their jobs so far this year, not lazy bums, working people, mostly in construction and building trades and the financial industries. Blue and white collar. College and non-college.

Where I live if I didn't have cable and an internet connection, there would be no TV reception at all, and no amusement but watching the squirrels.

I'm retired now, and more careful than ever before, I've got enough, just, but what of young families with growing kids, do you think the kids they have just disappear when mom and dad lose their jobs?

You, the taxpayer can easily become them,  and you would still have your pc, a cell, if not a landline, or how would you get job offers, ditto the pc, and no one would want the pretty dishes on your wall, and if the kids didnt  have tv you might just become suicidal, and then my taxes would have to pay for your suicide attempt.

The woman buying the steaks with food stamps, then going out to her Escalade, used to be,  a Cadillac and cigarettes, I've seen this story several times, over the course of thirty years.  Never fails to get people riled up.

I liked the snow crab leg addition, a touch of class there.

But you left out the part where you, the poor working woman couldn't afford more than hamburger and milk.
