While we may disagree on important issues, at least we get to choose. What if we had Russian style -- one party -- elections?

  1. Hip Hip Hooray for Democracy!

    Obama=Pelosi

  2. Oh, yes, I am glad for that. Which is why I'm voting McCain to KEEP it that way.

  3. YAY!!

    What a choice.

  4. Of course you are right, in this country we can change leaders without people getting killed and in a peaceful manner, that is while no country is perfect our system works pretty well.

  5. That's definitely true. And I'm CHOOSING Obama.

  6. Absolutely!  We do have a choice, and we should all appreciate that.  And despite all the bashing that's been going on here, I think both are impressive candidates, in their own ways.  I keep hearing people say that if "the other guy" wins, the country will go right down the toilet, and believe me, that is absolutely not true.

Thanks for making this very good point.  It's nice to hear the voice of reason once in a while.

  7. After listening and reading all this stuff.

    And watching TV.

I am the only one I would be fortunate to feel to be in charge.

But we have a democracy and it is great.

  8. And what if payed more attention to the 3rd parties? People like Ron Paul and Bob Barr would get their fair share of votes instead of the prepackaged ones the parties gave us.

  9. Absolutely - we are fortunate to be able to live in a democratic society.  I'm voting McCain / Palin so it stays more free and less socialistic.

  10. Definitely.  Not only to choose, but to have two decent choices;  McCain or Obama.  Much better than in 2000, when the alternative was Bush!?!

I like John McCain, and would be a lot more comfortable with him in the White House than Bush.  Of course, I really want Obama in there.

Now, a heartbeat away...I'd be comfortable with Biden.  I'm uncomfortable at the very thought of Palin in the White House, on so many levels.

  11. The beauty of our country.

    McCain 08!

  12. I think we are lucky either way. It boggles my mind to read these answers and listen to the liberals blame the conservatives for every problem this country has. And listen to the conservatives blame the liberals. I think most of the people in the country are somewhere in the middle and with that being said I am pretty happy with the candidates we have running. The last 16 yrs of our nation's history we have had a president shut off half the population. The current chimp in office is so conservative that he closed off the liberal and the chimp before that closed off the conservatives. We need to have someone with the willingness to reach across party lines and get this country moving in one direction or the other. Because for the last 16 yrs we have just been spinning wheels.

  13. There are other parties and candidates out there, but the media and the sheep cling desperately to the two-party system.

We're really not much better off than the Russian.  We only perceive we are.

A true democratic nation would have a parliamentary style of representation, that includes all parties.

  14. No, I wouldn't want the Russian style of government. What I would like to see once again is what the people running for office will do for their country if elected, we have only heard the run around the subjects this election. As far as fortunate with the two we have running for the office of President, the American's best people aren't running because they know what takes place.

  15. Yes.  All party differences aside, we are very lucky to have a democracy where the people can vote in their choice for public office.

Now if we could only get the Diebold voting machines to agree with that...

ADD-ON: ...and Jeb Bush.  Did you think we forgot the 2000 elections?

  16. Actually, I was ready to agree just because this is the first election in a long time where both candidates were actually high quality candidates.

Most of the close elections seem to be because neither candidate is very good.

  17. You are very smart and this is one of the most common sense questions I've heard since the beginning of election season, so Thank You. We are very fortunate to have the option to choose.  Many of us have different points of view but I hope when its all said and done, we do what's best for the country not our personal feelings about ones race, past, or personal family issues.

  18. We are lucky to have a functioning democracy, yes. We are unfortunate to have an electoral process that has hus paying so much attention to the personal lives and "electability" of our Presidents. I look forward to reform that will allow us to determine the better leader, rather than the better candidate.
