Question

ABC is a triangle has vertices A(-2,-1) B (o,7) C(8,3).Write equations for the three medians of a triangle.

I am sooooo lost, please help me understand this by going through it step by step. Thanks a bunch = )

If I do one, you can do the other two.

First, find the midpoint. I'm going to do AB.

(-2, -1) and (0, 7)

midpoint is [{7 - (-1)}/2], [{0 - (-2)}/2] = (8/2 , 2/2 ) = (4,1)

now find the slope of AB = (y2 - y1)/(x2 - x1)

                                    = (7 + 1)/(0 + 2)

                                    = 8/2

                                    = 4

next find the slope of the line perpendicular:

     m1*m2 = -1

      4*m2 = -1

          m2 = -1/4

finally, substitute m2 and midpoint into the following equation:

      y - y1 = m(x - x1)

      y - 1 = (-1/4)(x - 4)

      y - 1 = (-1/4)x + 1

      y = (-1/4)x + 2
