I really never had the desire to crochet, but I REALLY need to make this: http://amysbabies.wordpress.com/magnetic-katamari-pattern/ !! do you think this will be easy to accomplish if I already know how to knit? How long do you think it will take to get the hang of crocheting? Or.. actually.. is there a way to make this into a knitting pattern so i can KNIT it instead??

  1. well i would say crocheing is easy to learn for me but difernt people differnt abilities but i would just try to find someone who crochets and ask them to teach you or they could even make it also crocheing takes a long time to crochet large works so you might want to reconsider if you really need it or not

  2. I've been wondering this same thing, only vice versa. I crochet and would like to learn how to knit. From everything that I have heard, crochet is so much easier to learn than knitting- and I've heard this from knitters.   I don't think it would take you too long to pick up on it. I noticed that one of the other  people led you to a lionbrand.com. I would lead you to the same place. Their patterns are very easy to read and understand, so I think you will have luck with their teaching instructions.  Plus, once you learn, they have a ton of free patterns. I wish you luck! Have fun!!

  3. It says the pattern is worked in two halves. To me, that is like making two small hats. Then it is joined together and you make the little nubs. So if you can knit hats and keep a steady tension so they are both the same size, you can knit this.

I have been crocheting for more than half my life and I can cast on in knitting but that's as far as it goes. I once completed a square LONG ago and I recently worked half a scarf.  I don't think it is so much a matter of skill as motivation. :-)

  4. You could try knitting this.  But it would be smaller in size.

If you already know how to hold your thread crocheting should be easy to learn.  This pattern only takes a single crochet stitch and doing increases.

Here is a web page that teaches you how to crochet.

You may find that you like to crochet better.  I find that it goes faster than knitting for me.

  5. Crocheting and knitting are totally different, and knowing how to do one doesn't make learning the other any easier.  I do both, and can't say that one is harder than the other, but both took time and practice to learn.  With crocheting, you use one hook; with knitting you use two needles; and the terminology and the names of the stitches are totally different.
