If you can swim in 8 feet, can you swim in 12?

Question

Someone said that when she was in second grade she could swim in 5 feet but she couldnt swim in 8 feet. And this other person said that he could swim in 8 feet but not in 12, or something similar to that.

If you learn how to swim in five feet very well, shouldnt you be able to swim in the other feets easily too?

if you learn how to swim in 5 feet, and you are 5 feet tall.. you can just step on the bottom.. But in 8, you cant..

If you can swim in 8, anyone should be able to swim in 12.

Yeah, if you know how to swim, you know how to swim in any pool depth, unless you are swimming toward the sky, or you are afraid of deepness.

If someone knows how to swim...they can swim whatever depth that be. It usually the fear overcoming why some cant swim on deeper water even if they know how to swim.

The depth of the pool should not make a difference, unless the girl was 5 feet tall and was using the bottom to stand on. Unless thats the case, it wouldn't have made a difference physically. The only thing is that it could have freaked them out mentally to be in deeper water, so they thought that they 'couldn't' swim there.

when you swim in a certain feet it diffrent you know how deep it is and then in somthing elese you know its deeper and you think its harder to swim when you go to the bottum of the one you cant swim in

A resounding yes.  They may have learned to stroke and/or float but they didn't learn to tread water.  If they didn't learn to tread water, they didn't truly learn to swim.  If you must lie, make it believable.  LOL

maybe, because they were so young, they were afraid of very deep water. When they panicked about the deep water, they would sink. The key to swimming is relaxation.
