Not all the time.  It is said that a picture is worth a thousand words.  Imagine trying to explain the Mona Lisa or The Last Supper in mere words.  The paintings express feeling and emotion that is universally understood.  Writing is another good example.  The are books that just can't be turned into movies because the author's rely on readers creating their own pictures in their minds.
