  1. thats is the stupidest f**king thing i've ever heard

    no offense

  2. Yep this could be so .....a really silly /strange (judged by popular opinion ). name will cause people to see you differently ....and that may affect what happens to you to some extent .

I recently saw a girls name ... Miss Sincerely Jane ...something...  and thought then, poor kid, that's going to affect her in life .....

  3. I know so. :-) I legally changed my name about 3 years ago and ALOT has changed for me.

EDIT: I have more self confidence for one. I feel more ambitious and am taken more seriously. Before my name change I tried starting a non-profit organization and no one took me seriously. But after my name change when someone finds out I'm in the process of applying for 501(c)3 status for my non-profit everyone encourages me. I see that I have been much more successful in all my endeavors since the name change. If this is something you're seriously considering make sure the name you choose FITS you, or who you'd want to be. Good luck!! If you have anymore questions feel free to email me. :-D

  4. Only if you don't have a felony conviction. <}:-})

  5. NO!!!!!

  6. it depends on the name if you have a really strange name and you change it to not so strange than people might take you seriously... i wouldnt change my name unless i really didnt like it...

  7. Only If your in the Witness Protection Program!!

  8. Different ways of answering this one.  This is one possible focus:

For women who take on their husband's name -

Choice of husband can make you, ruin you, or just let you jog along along happily ... it will certainly affect the lives of any children you have together.

  9. If you're asking whether it will effect some cosmic change that will change some immutable destination in your life, then no, of course not.

However, in a more mundane sense, there are two ways that it could make your life easier or harder.

First, if it changing your name affects your confidence level, then the different confidence level could affect how you handle certain situations, which in turn could affect how those situations turn out.

Second, studies have shown that people's names affect how others react to them.  (For example, in one study, two resumes were sent to companies; the resumes were identical except that one had a named typically associated with blacks such as Jamal or Latasha while the other had a "normal" name, such as Troy or Brandy.  The resume with a "normal" name was more likely to get called in for an interview.)  Therefore, changing your name to something more (or less) common could cause people to treat you differently, which would again change the opportunities you were granted.
