  1. I want to be a Vet.  That is my goal in life at this point and I've actually contemplated the same question.  I hope it's worth it.  I love animals and to help them live better lives would be amazing!

  2. Any job is worth it if it is your passion. First you should try to decide exactly why you want to be a vet - do you have the gifts, the temperament, the motivation? If you need help in that area, you might try one of these two career guidance resources: http://www.crown.org/Tools/personality.a...

My daughter thought she was going to be a vet until she spent some time working as a vet technician. She got an up close and personal view of the profession before putting all the time and money into schooling. In the end she decided it wasn't for her. You may well decide differently, you'll never know until you try. I bet there's a vet in your area that would love some free help over the summer.

  3. Our local vet was asked this question by a hs'd teenager, and the vet replied that it was NOT worth it - the education was not worth the pay and the hours that you work to cover emergencies.

We do live in a small town, so maybe if she lived in a larger town she'd make more.

I am not trying to discourage you here!  You need to check with vets in your area. I am fairly sure that if you called the office and said that you were looking into going to veterinary school and wanted just 5 [or whatever] minutes to talk to the vet, you could either arrange to stop by or just talk to the vet on the phone.  Make up a list of 3 or 4 questions that you'd like to ask, and ask some new as well as experienced vets, and that will give you a better idea as to the answer to this question.

  4. Well, I am not a vet, but I can tell you that it all depends on how much you want to be a vet.  One good thing to do is to arrange to shadow a vet for a few days and observe what they actually do on a day to day basis.  That will help you determine whether you REALLY want to do the job or not, and whether it is worth the 6-8 years it takes to get a doctorate degree.

  5. may I ask what this has to do with homeschooling?
