If you compared the numbers does Brandon Webb still have a better shot at Cy Young than Tim Lincecum?

Sure, I'm a Giants' fan so I'm byass, but Timmy leads the Majors in strikeouts is ties for the major league lead in ERA has given up less home runs than Brandon Webb. Has 4 less wins, but also 2 less losses. Sure he does not have any complete games, but if it weren't for the overated pitch count thing he probably would. I know he is not on a contending team, but do you think that if he continues to pitch this well the rest of the season that he stands a chance at the CY Young?

also, i sooooo want lincecum to win it! he's 13-2 following giants losses (or something like that), meaning in spite of his team's lack of success, he comes out each time giving all that he can. lincecum can't control the # of runs that his team scores, while webb has a good offense behind him. and with 15 wins and only 3 losses, he becomes even more strongly considered.

if webb struggles this final month, which is pretty unlikely, lincecum has a shot at the triple crown, which pretty much guarantees a cy young.

If Lincecum reaches 18 wins possibly.  What's their WHIP?  Also, the Cy Young unlike MVP is not predicated as much on team's success so there's a shot, but my money's on Webb.

Tim Lincecum is the most dominant pitcher in baseball

Lincecum is the best pitcher in baseball. He is on one of the worst teams yet has 15 wins leads the league in strikeouts by getting almost 10 a game like today verse the rockies. Is tied for the league lead in quality starts and has been solid the whole season. Theres no doubt Brandon Webb is also a front runner but give me one good reason why lincecum doesn't deserve the Cy young

I think if he can win 4 and  get no decisions for the rest and finish 19-3 assuming his other numbers don't change too much, it would be difficult not to give him the cy

however if webb finishes with 23 or 24 wins I can't see Lincecum getting the nod

I am a Diamondbacks homer, but I just got done talking about how I thought Tiny Tim was getting screwed out of the Cy Young because wins are taken so highly into account.

Take them out of the equation and there's no way you can rank B-Webb over the Freak when it comes to stats.  Webb's WHIP is prettier, but Tim dominates him in the ERA and Strikeout department.  Unfortunately, the best pitcher doesn't always in the CY award because of the way the voting, works you need an offense that will rake up wins behind you as well.

Not too many folks taking Webb's side in this, so I'll take a shot.  First off, the three most important stat's you have listed are ERA, CG's, and W's;  Webb is > Lincecum in 2 of the 3.  Lincecum wins ERA by a narrow margin, and he pitches in a home park that is MUCH more pitcher-friendly than Webb's home park.  Also, Webb is simply not a "strike-out" pitcher, he's a sinker-ball pitcher. He doesn't need a high amt. of K's to be dominant.  I think it could also be argued that despite the D-Backs picking up Jon Rauch at the deadline, the Arizona bullpen is inferior to the San Francisco bullpen. I know if I was a starter, I'd sure prefer to have Brian Wilson as my closer, over Brandon Lyon.  Finally, Lincecum's on a pitch count for a reason;  a young pitcher with his mechanics will destroy his own arm if allowed to ring up high pitch counts.  Sinkerball pitchers, on the other hand, actually get STRONGER as a game progresses (at least, their sinker does, or should...Webb's sure does) You make a good case for Lincecum, but I feel I make just as good a case for Webb.

i think you should circle out tim lincecum because its goin to come down to C.C. and webb...C.C. can go 14-0 if he wins his next 6 starts and the would be much more impresive that brandon webb going like 25-4 or something so i think C.C. could dominate Brewer pitching and C.C. already has 5 CG, 2 shuouts
