  1. Harry Potter: I think it is missing redemption and a clear sense of good vs evil.  By the latter I mean, is it a Manichean or Boethian philosophy of evil? J.K. Rowling seems confused on this point.  Characters seem evil just to be evil, no good cause or motive for their evil exists.

The Hobbit: I'd pull the intrusive first person narrator out completely.

Lord of the Rings: I'd inter-cut the novel, rather than divide Frodo and Sam's adventures from the adventures of the rest of the Fellowship; I'd tell the story side by side, like most novels do.

    Twilight Series: Inject some originality.

  2. The only one of these i have read is the Hobbit/Lord of the Rings

plus all of the background books....i am happy with the story as told..

except in all that material Professor Tolkien, never completely explained the Witch King or the Lieutenant of the Tower, and I've often wondered if they weren't the missing Blue Wizards.....

  3. Harry Potter : I would've killed a character especially in the trio(say Ronald or Hermione) to show the power of the antagonist which she had explained strongly and firmly.

Twilight : I would not made Bella a vampire until the end of the series which would make the reader feel the mystery.

As for Lord of the rings..I haven't read. :(

  4. Harry Potter- In Deathly Hallows, Harry and the Dursleys would have more of a closure, I guess. I really want to know what exactly happened with the Dursleys. Do they still hate him? Are they still living at Number 4, Privet Drive? What's Dudley doing? And I'd want to know more about Hermione's parents. I'm just so curious about them. All we know is that they're dentists, and I'm sure Rowling could have fit in a small conversation between them and say... Mr. Weasley. Could you imagine that?

Mr. Weasley: Ah! You must be Hermione's parents! Jolly good day, isn't it?

    Grangers: Indeed!

Mr. Weasley: *suddenly remembers they're muggles and looks at them expectantly* You know, I've always been fascinated by muggles. And their elekticity.

    Grangers: ...*electricity*

Mr. Weasley: Is it?! *is excited* Do your chairs run on electripy?!

    Grangers: Er... some of them...

    Mr. Weasley: FASCINATING!!!!!!!

    I love Mr. Weasley XD

Erm, I've only read The Hobbit, so I couldn't really say...

And the Twilight series. God. I'd change so much. First, I'd have Bella's character be the way she was in BD, in other words, with a backbone. I'd have Edward be the way he was in BD, as well, less abusive. In the first three books, I'd only change the writing which isn't that great. I'd also have Meyer put in more things that make sense with BD, for example something about vampire pregnancies. In BD, I'd take out the whole thing about the "werewolves are really shapeshifters" thing, because it's completely pointless to the plot. I'd actually change the plot entirely, but... if she has it make more sense with the other books, I suppose it wouldn't be so bad... who am I kidding? Of course it would. But. I'd take still take out Renesmee. I'd have there be an actual battle between the Volturi and the vamps in Forks. I'd develop the foreign vampires a bit more. I'd make the Volturi the main conflict of the book, and have Tanya be a slight problem to Edward as a sort of side-conflict, because we all know how much she likes him. Umm. And the writing. I'd teach Meyer the meaning of synonyms. I'd put her into some writing classes. And... I think that's it.

You asked, so I told :)

  5. Wouldn't change a thing about The Hobbit and The Lord of the Rings. Well, except - I've heard tell that the characters were more archetypes than real characters with depth and complexity. I've also heard tell from the same people that he was the first to do it and he did it brilliantly.

As for the Witch King and the Lieutenant of the Tower, they're not the blue wizards. Try reading the appendices that accompany The Return of the King, although you won't find much info on the Lieutenant of the Tower (also known as the Mouth of Sauron), since he didn't write much about him (sez Wikipedia. I have yet to read the entire History of Middle Earth volumes).

Harry Potter - nix the epilogue. Otherwise, I'm all right with it, though my writing friends tell me that her writing isn't the greatest.

Twilight - I have a bit of a tin ear when it comes to writing. I can only tell when it's horrendous. And this was horrendous. It was fan fiction - crackfic, in fact - that got published. It is candy. Horribly made, delicious candy. It's my guilty pleasure - emphasis on the guilty - and I would definitely send the author to multiple writing classes. And a session on what makes a healthy relationship. And teach her that yes, while not every girl can be strong like Buffy, and kick ***, and be amazing, if the average girl acts like Bella, no wonder I relate more to guys.

  6. Twilight-I really wish Bella hadn't just flocked to Edward the moment he came back, leaving Jacob bitter. She should've told Edward something like...

"you can't go away for half a year and come back expecting me not to have fallen in love with another mythical creature." or something (lol, yes, thats my line. u can tell right away I'm on Team Jacob).

and I HATED how she had to go and get pregnant! I mean, I love renesmee and all, but hello, what is Meyer trying to tell teenagers? Get married and have a baby when ur ninteen and everything'll turn out okay???!??
