If you could change one thing about the current police unifrom in your country/area what would it be?

Question Details: Especially in terms of young people. To improve how the police are percieved (to be seen as less of the enemy, i.e. more approachable) And for young people to feel less intimidated.

Opinions are greatly recieved this is for a university project, If you dont mind could you also include your age and area/country. Thank you.

I would want their Rank badges to be worn on their Cuff Sleeves. Their Hi Vi waistcoat could be either Orange or Silver,NOT Yellow.  The yellow ones are worn by,

Road- workers,Builders,Postal Staff and a host of others. From a distance I cannot identify a Policeman. It is likely for me to be spend a lot of energy running towards the wrong person by mistake. A Policeman should be easily identifiable on the streets.

I disagree with your assumption that the police are perceived to be an enemy and intimidating to young people.  Why would a person, regardless of age, have a reason to feel intimidated if he/she hasn't broken the law?  

Perceiving the police as "the enemy" has absolutely nothing to do with the design of the uniform but does have everything to do with lack of respect for authority.

A uniform serves a specific purpose; to set that person apart from the general population and to make them readily identifiable.  Changing the design of the uniform will not change the mindset of certain people toward the police.

I live in the southeast United States and the officers in my county, city, and state, are well dressed.  If I could change anything it wouldn't be the uniforms but the size of some of the officers wearing them.   They are grossly obese and couldn't fight their way out of a wet paper bag; when they get slightly exhausted, they breathe like a moose in heat.  I won't even mention their being involved in a foot chase or their struggling to get in and out of their car.

They need to be intimidating otherwise they won't be taken seriously.

Think about what the military would be like in pink uniforms.
