A friend is about to have a baby and for her baby shower I am making a booklet of useful tips. Not the perfect mum type tips. the practical mum tips I have a few of my own but would like others to share.

If you could give one piece of advice to a new mum what would it be. Funny or serious but definitely true

(in one sentence please)

Some funny examples I have already:

They have their entire life to grow up, let them be children as long as posible.

Cereal for dinner saves on dishes!

Family Tradition: For a week after Easter, we celebrate each day with chocolate for breakfast.

  1. I say BREATHE..........

Nobody know what's best for your baby, but YOU!  Relax, and know that if you stay calm, so will your baby.  If you need to, put a crying baby down for 20 sec, go into another room, and take DEEP BREATHS, and count to 10.  You'll feel refreshed and ready to tackle that upset baby again.

Most of all Have Fun With Motherhood

I know that this is more than 1, but it goes together....??

    Good Luck

    Momma P

  2. Pick your Battles.  Not everything is worth stressing or fighting about.  That applies to kids and relationships.

Don't compare yourself to other Moms.

Don't compare your kid to other kids.

When you're frustrated- stop and look at your baby and remember how you felt the first time you saw him or her.

Don't expect to get much sleep for the next 18 years.

You'll never stop worrying about your child.

Toddlers will fall.  That's why God made them so close to the ground- so they didn't have far to go.

    Don't take yourself too seriously.

Teach compassion.  Teach empathy.  Everything else will fall into the right places.

  3. a few facts and ideas i was told ....

    * kids only sleep when they know you need to get things done ,invest in a baby swing

    * let them eat half their wieght in dirt by the time they're one ....it wont kill them

*just keep your kitchen ,lounge and bathroom clean when you have a baby ....no one needs to see the rest and if they do they are just nosey

    * put a pocket mirror under bubs nose every few hrs at night to check they are breathing

*DO NOT wake a child to feed [let them wake when they are hungry]otherwise you are asking for trouble

    goodluck and enjoy the shower

    ;)

  4. enjoy every minute of those first weeks of crying and nighttime feeds because its all over too soon.

  5. Take all the help you can get.

Don't stress over the little things, your baby is only a baby for such a short time - the housework will still be there tomorrow.

    Sleep whenever you can.

Parenting is more an art than a science - you make it up as you go along and hope for the best :D

Mummy knows best! (don't let anyone tell you what you should or shouldn't be doing for YOUR baby)

  6. Sleep.  Sleep whenever your baby sleeps, the house will somehow clean itself!!

  7. Overlook my baby weaknesses.

You're the most important person in my world.

I can't make it without you. So get to know me.

Have fun with me. And love me...just as I am.

  8. Your child will never remember if the house was perfectly cleaned, whether mom was fashionably dressed, or if the social calendar was always amply filled.  They will remember that you let them use ketchup as fake blood in a sword fight, that you sat in the sand and played with them, and that you were available when it counted.

Little kids, little problems.  Big kids, big problems.

  9. Rest while you can.

  10. My best advice:

Being a parent is a life long test, you never know how you did til the end.

  11. sleep when your baby is sleeping as you are going to need as much rest as possible.

and lewt your kid play in the sand, with them eating a little bit of sand it will help their digestive and immune system

  12. Sleep when the baby sleeps.

  13. Serious - accept any help that is offered when bub is born.Funny - buy some ear plugs

  14. take tons of pictures and video, they change so quickly!

spend some time everyday just gazing at your little one

you can't spoil a newborn- hold, kiss, sing, snuggle to your hearts content

  15. Let them play, that sand in their mouths won't kill them.
