Some concerned people are very worried about wombats and the terrible affliction that they suffer called mange. This is a parasite that if left untreated allows the womabt to die a slow and painful death. Several groups are working to develop a method to self treat wombats by merely walking into their burrows. http://www.wombatprotection.org.au/ Maybe this could be done for other animals.

  1. Well we could put med. and first aid kits in the trees and bush's (Just kidding). Actually I have found that it usually very easy to get information from or to work with the department of natural resources.

  2. Thank you for sharing the article. I'm glad to see that there are still good people out there willing to make a difference in the world. Keep up the good work.

  3. Thank you for bringing this to our attention. I own a pet shop and there is always discussion among the customers about some kind of animal. I was unaware of the slow reproduction rate or the wombat, its being so closely related to the Koala pr the mange. I will help get the information spread around.

  4. I always help wild animals when I find them.

I have raised and released several orphaned baby squirrels as well as 2 injured pigeons I came upon.  The secret is understanding the animal, its behavior, it nutritional needs, and to exactly WHAT you are looking at and to have a Guru who is experienced who will give you great advice.

I found my GURU in Clarissa at  the link below, she's amazing!

  5. I would love to help sick wildlife out there, as a matter a fact I've already helped a baby piegon who was injuired.  The poor piegon was laying under a tree near a play ground.  These young kids were picking at it with sticks, I then went in between them and took the baby home.  I raised it for many years until it passed, she was loyal always following me around like my little baby girl.

  6. I would consider this neurotic meddling.

Why not promote the true means of helping wildlife, sick or not?

If humans reversed their own reproduction rate so that we went from six billion down to about 1 billion total people on the planet with less than 2% of that number in industrialized countries and minimized impact to the environment (such as with fossil fuels, CFC's, heavy metals, etc.) a lot more could be accomplished such as eliminating overfishing, destruction of natural habitat, and contamination of water and air.

I am not at all concerned about a few wombats in the face of the real issues, as mentioned above.

  7. i've always wanted to be the guy who shoots animals with tranquilizer darts. especially if i would get to shoot out of a helicopter in africa. that'd be pretty cool.
