If you could name the Oklahoma City team, what would it be?

ESPN.com just announced that the OKC Franchise will anounce their new team name, jerseys, etc. on September 3rd. The team is rumored to be named Oklahoma City Thunder.

I think this is the worst name for a team I've ever heard of. If that isn't the name of a WNBA team, then I don't know what is.

So...make your suggestions for the new name of the OKC team.

My Vote: Oklahoma City Outlaws

  1. Personally, I like the sound of the Oklahoma City Zephyrs. And I would like to say that Thunder is not the worst name ever, that title belongs to the Celtics. First because someone is a Celt or is Celtic but not a Celtic. And second because Celtic is pronounced with a hard c like a k not like an s. So they ripped off the name of a people group, screwed it up grammatically, and still can't pronounce it right. Nothing against the Boston franchise; I think they're amazing, but I hate their name.

  2. oklahoma city oranges

  3. I personally love the Oklahoma City Outlaws. However, with everything they are trying to fix in basketball, and the perseption they are attempting to change, I don't know if David Stern will take acception to the name. It is definitely the best sounding, and flows the best, but Stern will probably shoot it down due to the perceived meaning behind it.

Thunder sounds absolutely ridiculous. I don't think Kevin Durant, Jeff Green, or new addition Russell Westbrook will be pleased to say that they're apart of the Thunder. Just doesn't feel quite right.

I have an idea that could relate to the Sonic theme. In honor of the former video game, keep the theme and call them the Oklahoma City Knuckles after "Sonic and Knuckles". Just kidding. Not at all serious about that. However, I have read that they've narrowed it down to 6 names: Thunder, Energy, Wind, Marshalls, Barons, and Bison. Not really a great litter to pick from. Thunder, Energy, and Wind just don't make any sense in my opinion, Marshalls is ok, but it sounds like a 10 year old team, Barons is cool, but it seems a little weird, and Bison relates to the hometown and flows fairly well, but is a little weak still. I guess my choice would be the Barons. I don't love it, but it is the best out of the choices. Oklahoma City Barons.

  4. Oklohoma City Outlaws/Robbers/Losers

  5. Oklahoma City Claymen, in honor of Clay Bennett!

*I really don't care what they name their team*

  6. I'm with you man, gotta be the outlaws after they robbed the Seattle fans, who are great, btw, of basketball.  And the outlaws is a tight name anyway.

Furthermore, no team should have a singular name.  imagine: Gilbert Arenas gets traded to OK City, in the press conference "I'm proud to be a Thunder."  That doesn't even make sense.  It'd be better to call a team the slow worms or something.

  7. Oklahoma City Durants. Get the weight of kevin's scrawny shoulders!

  8. Oklahoma Thunders sounds good to me. I mean seriously, when I saw your question the first answer that comes up my mind is to name them Oklahoma City Typhoon/Torpedo. Thunder sounds like the two. There is also a relation.

  9. the flat nothing's. because if you drive through OK you realize it is flat and there is nothing there

  10. Oklahoma City SonicSupers.

  11. Back in the late sixties, there was a Continental Football League team in OKC, which was called the Plainsmen, and I rather like that name.

If the copyright were up for that one, I would snap it up in a heartbeat!

  12. the suckers

  13. the unwanted because Seattle is where all the unwanted go.
