I have been in many g*y pride parades and I never felt the need to represent anyone but myself.  I was just happy to be there.  When I first came out, I was in the military and terrified of being kicked out if anyone found out.  So it was a big deal for me, once I got out (honorably, at the end of my enlistment), to be able to just walk down the street, being out and proud, and not having to worry about that.  What's more, it was the first time I was ever aware of not being in the minority for once (being surrounded by about 30,000 g*y people), and it was incredibly empowering.
