do everything you could to prevent it from happening, regardless of what it cost you, or would you just "go with the flow" and let it happen, hoping that it didn't harm you or any of your loved ones? Or would you take a stand and stop it?

Lots of things have the potential to kill innocent people.  That doesn't necessarily mean they should be stopped.

My fortitude in trying to stop a particular problem would depend on weighing the good against the bad of whatever it is, combined with the relevance it has upon my life or the life of my family.

Nobody can fight every battle...choose them carefully.

No. I'd invest billions of dollars in defense. And just go with the flow.. And blame everything for that problem while refusing to fix the problem itself because my  defense stocks are skyrocketing.
