I'm trying to do a custom installation with these speakers i bought at the store, but the speakers r connected and i need to cut the wire in order to get them to fit in the spot i need.

i tried to detach it from the speaker but they have already been sealed to the back piece.

any other ideas would also be helpful

  1. when you say sealed, do you mean soldered?  If so, just de-solder it and and redo the connection.  If you do choose to cut the speaker wire, try a new wire soldered to replace the wire instead of reconnecting at the cut.

  2. try to solder them back if at all possible.

  3. Electrical tape will work, you can also purchase shrink wrap casing for the wires at places that sell wiring/ electrical supplies.  Might even find it at Home Depot.  MAKE SURE TO FOLLOW THE DIRECTIONS- you don't want to melt the casing or wire sleeve.

Shrink wraps are nice in that you don't have the 'sticky' stuff around your wiring, and there is less chance of the tape unraveling, depending on where your wires are.

Solder first is an option- certainly to avoid those subtle 'noise' issues, but it should work with a good strip and twist.

It's all a matter of your desired level of effort.

  4. idk

  5. Yes, cut the wires, pull back the coating a little bit on both ends and twist the raw wires together and then use the tape to cover completely.  They should work fine.

  6. Yes, or use a wire nut.  That is the way everyone installs and splices speaker wire.

  7. Yes, as long is you make a good connection (strip both wires, wrap them around each other so they won't come undone).  I recommend soldering the wires together first, then wrapping it with electrical tape, or use a wire nut.
