Imagine for a moment you never knew that a bite from a black widow could kill you, do you think that by it's look alone you be afraid of it anyway regardless of the lack of knowledge (assuming you didint know it was poison etc)

  1. Yes. All spiders get the same treatment from me in they are in my house.

  2. Yes, It is a spider.  I hate all spiders!

  3. I sure would, I have a great fear of spiders.

  4. There's no reason to fear black widows. And I don't consider them deadly since I've only heard of one documented death from them, and that was due to an allergic reaction. They are very timid and reluctant to bite. Yes, their venom is potent (15 times stronger than that of a prairie rattlesnake), but they inject so little it's not deadly, but can be very painful. I've owned many black widows and raised them and none ever came after me or tried to bite. Lack of knowledge breeds fear.

  5. Hello;

    Actually, I am not afraid of Black widows even knowing that their bite is potentially deadly. I have loved spiders since I was a little girl and have never been one to be afraid of things that most people would consider to be 'creepy crawlies'.

    Heck; Black widows are very common in my area, and whenever I see one in the house, instead of killing it I generally just put it in a cup and bring it outside to my wood shed or another low-traffic area where it won't be bothered. I leave most spiders alone in my house when I see them, but because a Black widow poses a threat to my other pets, it has to go outside.

    If they didn't have potent venom or if I didn't know that their venom was potentially dangerous; I would probably keep them as pets due to their striking coloration. I think they are quite pretty. :)

    Anyway; that is my two cents. ;)

    What about you? Would you be afraid of one, even if you didn't know that it had potent enough venom to kill someone?

    I hope this helps, and if you have any further questions at all on the subject; please feel free to message me and I will be more than happy to assist you. :)

    Good luck!

  6. I don't know that I would think that it could kill me by its looks, but I surly would be cautious.. Only because  there are a lot of spiders that simply leave marks when they bite and some of them hurt.
