  1. You should have the gear before stepping onto the bike as regular jeans and boots do not offer the protection that you get from proper race gear.

If money is a factor you could look on ebay as second hand stuff is often on offer.

Get yourself some race pants and jersey as the pants really do protect you from burns as the bikes pipe does get hot and my boys often have holes burnt in their gear from racing and without the proper pants their legs would be burnt.

Goggles are a must to protect your eyes and a good helmet.  I suggest you don't buy the helmet second hand as you don't know if it has been in a bad stack and my sons go through several helmets a year and some of the disgards you really could not tell that they have had quite an impact.

Gloves are not a large expense but also necessary.

Boots again look on ebay as I have pair for sale second hand myself so know that they do appear on there and can be in very good condition.

Some form of chest guard should also be worn as you wouldn't want to stack and have something go through your chest.  It also protects you from Roost when riding.

Although it does sound like you need an awful lot, you really shouldn't be riding without the proper protection.  Better safe than sorry.

  2. You should really get a helmet, chest protector and boots, just to keep yourself safe.

  3. You definitly need a helmet, not a cheap one and if you drop it, you need to by another one. Gloves, goggles, chest armour and a kidney belt (this will save your back) boots, and good nylons. Not the cheap ones, they will just tear.

  4. If you plan to keep riding, here is what I suggest you get (highest priority on the top, then next, etc.):

    1. Helmet

    2. Goggles & Gloves

    3. Riding boots

    4. Chest protector

Your head & eyes are your most vulnerable areas - protect them! I don't want to sound all preachy - just want to get the point across. For gloves, you can use work gloves. Riding gloves are nice, and not very expensive, but if you are doing this on a budget, leather work gloves will serve you well.

Boots: Off-road boots offer a tremendous level of protection for your feet & ankles. You can get by with construction-type boots - but if you use them, make certain you tuck your laces inside the boot-top after you tie them, or your laces can get caught on something at the wrong moment (trust me, I leared this the hard way). As for tenners, you really don't want to try riding in just tenners. They offer no protection.

Riding pants, jersey. They usually offer better protetection than jeans. They also cean up easier & are reinforced in the right places. If you don't care about style, you can usually find 'last year's design' at a steep discount. But they are at the bottom of the priority list.

Best of luck and I hope you have lots of fun!

  5. if you want to go out riding, thats cool, but try getting at least a helmet to wear.

if you like riding and eventually want to buy a bike, then yes, you will have to buy gear. I recommend buying a good helmet that fits properly first, then the other gear such as riding pants, riding jersey, gloves, boots, chest protector...etc, and it does not have to be in that order, but remember to buy the helmet first....

  6. you should rly get a helmet and chest proctor

  7. Yes! You wouldn't like your first time out to be your last. I personally work at a motorcycle dealership in Huntington Beach. I race myself, and have been in many situations where I wished I would have worn gear. Now it is a must! =]

    What your going to want to get is;

A helmet, Boots, riding socks knee pads, riding pants, jersey, chest protector, gloves, and goggles.

In order by importance;Helmet, boots, knee pads, chest protector, pants, goggles, jersey, socks

If you want you can order it directly from me, and have it shipped to your house!

just call Huntington Beach Honda @ 714-842-5533, and make sure you ask for Brandon in parts(not sales).

    or E-mail me at brandon_guthrie@impulzeclothing.com

and then check out my site!

    THANKS

  8. I think the most important things are just boots, gloves and a helmet. A chest protector is a smart choice but not necessary. You don't have to buy real MX boots right away, but you need something that comes up above your ankle.
