It's around 6 months past the date that this person was to pay their vehicle registration fee to the DMV,

They also need to get their Vehicle smogged.

If they wait six more months what can the DMV do?

They live in S. Ca, and also owe about $150 for a parking ticket that was also on their bill for the smog and registration due to the DMV?

  1. They should be prepared to Reach deeply into their pocket

  2. You cannot park an unregistered vehicle in the street or public parking lot.  Apartment complexes may also have rules about "storage" of vehicles (disallowing unregistered vehicles).  So if that was the case, or it was being driven, the party is not going to get out of any fines.

In some states there is just normal registration fee (instead of late registration fee) if a vehicle has been unregistered for over a year.  But the vehicle would probably need to by out of public sight during that time (garaged).  Ask at a DMV office.

  3. They will be sending reminders and total fees due.

They will not send you next years registration notice.

So, whenever the owner gets around to paying the registration, add in the the penalties and the ticket and those penalties and show a current smog and proof of insurance.

Pay it now or wait and get stopped for no registration. Then add that fine to the above list.

This will not get any better or go away.
