If you don't have an embroidery hoop can you still embroider fabric? I want to stitch some letters, any ideas?

I have the floss and needles, but no hoop, is there something I can make with household objects or is there another way?

  1. You can substitute a small wooden picture frame and a couple of thumbtacks.

  2. You don't need to have a hoop, but you do need to be aware of how tight you're stitching.  If it's just a small area, you could probably get away without a hoop, gently pulling the thread through the fabric just to set the thread.

    Hope this helps.

    Good luck!!!!

  3. Lots of folks stitch "in hand". Just hold the area you're working on tautly between your fingers (thumb & forefinger) with one hand while you stitch with the other. I did that for a bookmark I worked on recently; it was just too small for any of my q-snaps (Btw, check out q-snaps instead of hoops. They're awesome).
