If you don't pay your water rates would your hot water get shut off?

I woke up this morning and noticed that the hot water was not working. I'm wondering if it's because the water rates haven't been paid for. My landlord is responsible for that but I've been throwing his letters out. I opened up one letter and it said he's owing like $450!!! I'm in so much trouble. What do I do?

  1. If it's hot water only, it's most likely the GAS BILL that hasn't been paid. If the water bill hasn't been paid, there would be NO WATER, hot or cold. Not sure what you should do... I'm a little confused about if you are supposed to pay him or what??

  2. You should sue your parents for not raising you to be a responsible adult then you should go put your own head in the toilet bowl and then flush.

It is the only answer that makes sense for you.

  3. Pay the bill soon you won't have cold water they're not going to let you have a free ride. You have to pay for it pay now or your credit score will suffer.

  4. first off why are you throwing your land lords mail away.. that is a federal offense to tamper with another persons mail.

second: water would be turned off all the way if the bill has not been paid.

The gas bill determines the heat of the water, you must behind on the gas too.

you need to give the land lord his/her mail so that the water can be taken care of.

In the future don't open or throw another persons mail away without there consent. its a crime punishable by a fine or jail time.

  5. no they put food coloring in ur water usually its green but everyonce in a while its blood red

  6. You don't read the letters? I would say you are skating on thin ice. You could take the unopened letters your landlord has sent you and use them to build a fire which you can use to heat water.

    LOL at Zoe's answer.

  7. If your landlord owes it, then why are you in trouble?  Shouldn't he be in trouble?  Take him to housing court.  You can withhold rent till he pays the water bill.

  8. If you don't pay your water bill they can shut off your water.

Your water heater uses gas or electricity to heat the water.

If you don't pay your gas or electricity, eventually they shut that off.

Most places, apartments and condos, etc, each unit had it's own water heater. It's much more likely that you have a gas one and the pilot went out, meaning you'd have to relight it.

Maybe the landlord turned it off, but it's much more likely he'd turn off the water itself. If he did turn it off, he could be in big trouble. Even if you're not paying your rent he is not allowed to mess with your utilities. As long as you occupy the unit he has to make sure it is 'habitable'.

Why are you getting your landlords bills?

    Good luck.

  9. If I were you I would not admit to tampering with the mail I would write return to sender so they would know they have a incorrect address and leave what is done is done admitting to a federal offense is...ummm not wise as far as the no hot water report it it is probably the water heater sometimes maintenance has to work on something and they shut off the water heater and the  water it seems like you have water because the pressure is low

  10. Ask him. but yeah if you don't pay your water bill eventually they cut it off at some point.

  11. they would just shut your water off. if you don't get hot water it's because your hot water heater is broken. there might be a gas leak. get out now!

  12. Hot water is heated with electricity or gass.. If you have electricity on in your house, then the gas bill hasnt been paid?

You should talk to your landlord and tell him to pay it. Or take some responsibility, and pay it yourself..

You should have read the letters instead of throwing them out, maybe thats what caused a problem.

  13. I don't know where your at but in California if your water goes off your landlord is in a world of s.h.i.t. not you

  14. If your water were shut off, it would be ALL water, not just hot. You probably have an issue with the hot water heater. Moreover, does it say in your lease that your landlord has to pay the water? If so he is contractually obligated to do so, and you may sue him to demand that he fulfill that obligation.

  15. If it's only the hot water and not the cold water, it means the gas bill isn't paid. Why do you think you're in trouble - because you opened his letter with the bill in it? You should make sure he gets it, it should be mailed to his address - maybe he hasn't been receiving it. Or is it your responsibility to pay for it? I know I pay for mine....
