I want to send my relative a really cool 'Thankyou' card but I'm afraid

it's going to be a little thick.

1.) How many stamps do you have to put on mail? I live in the state of

CA, in Los Angeles. Was it 47 Cents or something?

2.)What happens when you don't put enough stamps? Do they

throw your mail away or return it back to you?

  1. I have put change taped to my envelope.  I don't know about CA but here in TX you can buy postage from your postman...so unless I'm not physically at my mailbox I will tape it to my env. and it gets where it's going.. check w/your postman/postoffice

  2. a friend of mine when she was around 10 used to intentionally "forget" to put postage on her letters, and then switch the positions of the to: and from: addresses. So then the mail would get "returned" to the person she was sending it to, postage free. My mom told me that was illegal though, so don't try it, but I thought it was funny.

  3. A regular first-class stamp currently costs 42 cents. If your envelope weighs more than one ounce, you need to put an additional 17 cents worth of postage on it.

(Most people just use two first-class stamps. The Post Office doesn't mind if you pay them a little extra.)

If you don't put enough postage on an envelope, they may deliver it "Postage Due" (meaning the person it's addressed to has to pay the rest of the postage) or they may simply return it to you marked "Insufficient Postage" and you'll have to send it again with the right amount of postage on it this time.

  4. If there is a return address they send it back to you. If not then it may get trashed or it may get delivered postage due. Seems to be arbitrary on the basis of whoever happens to be handling it.

Why not just go to the local post office have it weighed and put the correct postage on it and avoid the hassles?
