If you dont asign private ip addresses in hosts in a lan will the network work?

if you asing to hosts in a lan ip addresses that are not private (for example 1.0.0.1)will the lan work if the hosts arent connected to the internet?if they are connected to the internet will it work?

  1. yes it probabaly will but there si no pint in doing it that way, you riwll probabaly have network porbelm later one when you do connect it to the internet.

  2. As long as its no a reserved range, the LAN shoud still work, you will need to have the correct subnet masking in place.

    In theory the Internet will work because most routers that connect you to the internet will use Network Address Translation.


  3. You MUST NOT use public addresses in a local network. If any machine connects to the internet showing such an address, your ISP will disconnect you and you will be liable for any legal costs if your action causes disruption of other's service. If one of them even tries to send an email this will happen. There is no need to use public addresses, as there are thousands of private addresses available.
