My friend told me if I don't eat meat, i'll gain weight.

She also said if I don't eat meat for two months, my arms and legs will swell up if I eat it.

I don't believe it, but just making sure.

  1. not true.

    I haven't eaten meat regularly since I was 10

however, a few times I did, usually by accident... nothing ever swelled up. Just, my appetite immediately left me as soon as I realized I'd eaten meat

Gaining weight does not automatically happen by going vegetarian.  However, there are alot of vegetarians (i was one) who get heavy by eating too much junk food, too many carbs, fake meats, etc.. .moderation is the key.. if you go very easy on the portions, carbs, fake meats, and junk food, you'd be fine and would probably LOSE weight, as meat is very fattening..

The key to a healthy vegetarian diet is to make the BIGGEST part of the diet a wide variety of whole grains, legumes, nuts, fresh fruits and vegetables... and to go easy on dairy, eggs, fake meats, "white" carbs like white bread, pastas, etc, etc.. and really watch the junk food.

If you "go vegetarian" but live on cheese pizza, yes, you will probably gain weight!!

  2. now what is going on in her mind?

sorry,  you eat meat, you'll get fat.

meat has way too much fats and proteins from fats.

    eat a veggie diet instead:

there....    don't get fat and don't  listen to airhead friends.

  3. she is lying,

you MIGHT gain weight if you replace the meat in your diet with junky food, but most people when turning veghead lose weight if anything.

  4. You will gain weight if you eat too much, meat, grains, fruit, etc etc.

This is good guide to basic weight loss/gain/maintenance.

Intake > Expenditure = Weight Gain

Intake < Expenditure = Weight Loss

Intake = Expenditure = Weight Stabilization

and always exercise, even if it's just a 15-30 minute brisk walk after dinner.

  5. As far as I know, it's not true.

Ask her why she thinks that. It would be interesting to know from where or who she got that bit of information

  6. Not true!!!

  8. No such thing - tell your fren it is not April fool today

  9. Your friend is quite amusing you should get her to do stand up! What she was false, I actually lost some weight when I stopped eating meat (which was good for me because I had some extra weight) The most important thing when eating any diet or what have you is that you get the proper nutrients and eat healthy. You can gain weight if you replace meat with cheese pizza or with ice cream or junk foods but if you have a good well balanced diet with the proper nutrients you are going to be just fine and you probably won't swell up unless you are allergic to something  and you eat it or maybe in your case have it near you.

  10. if you dont eat meat will you lose vitamins, proteins, b12, so on ans so forth

depends on what you eat all.

  11. LOL. That is so wrong, it's definitely false. Not eating meat makes you LOSE weight, not gain. When I stopped eating meat I lost a few pounds without even changing my other habits.

  12. Is your friend some sort of doctor with an expertise in nutrition?

You kids.  You believe everything your stupid friends say, even though they are just as young and ignorant as you are.

  13. not necessarly. if you stop eating meat and sub in unhealthy fatty foods...then you can gain weight. but if u keep your diet healthy u should be ok. ive never heard of your limbs swelling lol.

  14. nooo iv been a vegetarian for 5 or 6 months and my limbs are normal.....you get a star just becouse iv really never herd that one and my freinds say sum pretty dumb S**t about not eating meat

  15. It depends on what you eat, if you dont eat meat it doesnt mean that you WILL GAIN WEIGHT.  But, meat does help your health alot more then not eating any meat.

  16. Legs & arms swell up??!?!?

Generally not eating meat will make you LOSE weight.  Meat is generally high in saturated fat and calories.

A lot of people going vegetarian lose weight because it's cuts out the majority of junk / fast foods like burgers, big steaks, deep fried chicken etc etc.  Not eating meat forces you to look at the alternatives of legumes, beans & fruit and veg to fill you up, which means you get more nutrients in your diet and eliminates around 80% of saturated fat.

I lost 5 kilos when I became vegetarian, but only because I started eating a well-balanced diet.

  17. Depends if you substitute meat for junk food you'll gain weight. If you eat a lot of veggies instead you're bound to lose weight.

    It's a simple formula

Burn more calories then you take in.

Meat has more calories then veggies, therefore if you eat veggies rather then meat you'll take in less calories. If you sit all day doing nothing you will lose weight. You won't be thin per se but you'll lose a few pounds.

    Your friend was absolutely wrong

I weigh 98lbs and I'm 5 foot and I don't eat meat. My arms and legs aren't swollen, I take a size xsmall in shirts and 00 in pants. I wear a 16/18 in kids shirt and a size 10/12 in kids shorts and pants.
