If you drive badly and kill your own child - should you get off for having suffered enough?

I ask because many pro McCanns seems to think its ok they didn't face child neglect/abandonment charges because they 'had suffered enough'.

Does the effect on a person of their actions mean they should not face charges?

  1. If the McCanns were guilty of neglect, they would have been charged witht the crime.  They weren't.

I leave it to the courts to decide.

Yes, I have seen a child die because of a mistake.  My sister in law didn't fasten her much loved daughter's car seat properly and when the car rolled, the child fell out and was killed.

It was a terrible tragedy, and cost her her marriage, as her husband blamed her.  but no more than she blamed herself.

Would I have wanted to see her in prison?  Why?  For revenge?  For punishment?  Charges weren't pressed, but she lives with her bitter regrets and sorrow every day of her life.  If only she had taken the time to check that the buckle was secure ...

And I think what my sister in law went through was not half as bad as what the Mccanns have gone through.  My God - can you imagine not knowing who has your child?

  2. you bet ye.

  3. well they weren't driving her, she was in a room they believed secure. Whilst someone who actively sits a child on their lap, as someone did the other day in the front seat, who subsequently went through the windscreen, was guilty. whether the person goes to jail remains to be seen. Probably not.

thumbs down, oh ho, so its ok to kill your child by dint of being in  a car without a proper seatbelt, some people should take a serious look at that

  4. no and just cos the McCanns are doctors they shouldn't get away with it either, its disgraceful! If I'd done what they did I'd soon be done for child neglect, no they haven't suffered enough but their poor child sure has, their arrogance at not admitting their initial **** up at leaving THREE babies on their own, infuriates me.

  5. Saucy, i don't think its ok the McCanns didnt' face child neglect charges bcos they 'had suffered enough'.

i think its ok the McCanns didn't face child neglect charges bcos from all accounts they did not neglect their children. The terrible decision to leave them unattended on holiday was just that...a terrible decision taken on holiday perhaps bcos they were lulled into a false sense of security. Madeleine & her siblings were not neglected children as even the most vociferous of the McCann bashers will have to admit. They are well cared for & loved immensely by responsible parents who made a terrible decision.

Also, driving badly is an offence that as you say can kill a child. Its technical. While neglect is over a period of time...subjective. Its not easy to compare the two.

  6. As a pro McCann I would bring this man to court , listen to what he has to say and if it was proved to be simply a tragic accident then I would let him go free. What would you do saucy ? Hang him or let him rot in jail as many anti's would like to do with the McCanns

  7. If through a parents neglectful actions, a child goes missing or dies, the parents should be banged up for a long time.  They may be suffering from the loss  but that's no excuse to let them off.  They should still be prosecuted.

  8. If you went off into the back seat to have some tapas while the car was hurtling down the motorway then yes.

  9. My ex partner is a bad driver but I have to have faith that he will bring my children home safely... My goodness if he was to hurt them bcoz of his driving I would want him serving time... I know that sounds mean, but if he took one of my babies lives bcoz his driving sux and had been told to retake driving classes and didnt, then that statement "had suffered enough" would be thrown out the window bcoz in the end I'm the one the suffers more. For allowing him to take my kids knowing that his driving is bad....

  10. Depends on the circumstances.  If they were under the influence, yes.

I have heard of parents backing into the garage and the child runs into the back of the car and dies.  They haven't been jailed, its an accident. You can't be black and white about these things.

  11. h**l no, they should be charged with neglect and abandonment,

  12. I dont think that you should encourage parents to drive badly enough to kill unwanted children, or leave patio doors open when on holiday either for that matter!
